Hunan Province connects Jiangxi Province in the east, Hubei Province
in the north, Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province and Guizhou
Province in the west and Guangdong and Guangxi in the south. There
are 126 county/city administrative units in 12 municipalities, one
prefecture and one autonomous prefecture across the province. The
capital seat is Changsha city.
Hunan Province attaches importance to development of information
industry, supports and encourages the growth of the electronic information
industry, and makes greater efforts to invest into information infrastructure.
By 2001, an optical cable communication system of over 60,000 kilometers
was in operation. The trunk line exchange capacity stood at 240,000
lines and there were over 50,000 IP network ports and the bandwidth
of the internet output was 2.5G. During the 10th Five-Year Plan,
Hunan communication industry will commit to building the broad-band
education city-wide network for Changsha city, the provincial basic
geographic information system, and the basic geographic information
network exchange system. Special efforts will be made to make the
grand ambition of the Digital Hunan come true.
